In 1997, ALAM was privatized and became the Malaysian Maritime Academy Sdn. Bhd, (MMA), a consortium comprising Malaysian International Shipping Corporation (now MISC Berhad), Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), Penang Shipbuilding and Construction Sdn, Bhd, and Klang Port Management Sdn.
